Just moved to upstate NY Ithaca, I was wondering if anyone in the area knows a place to source spar grade spruce or spruce guitar tops. Any other wood related info in the area could be helpful too.

Thanks

I bought a bunch of guitar tops from a fellow up in Stephentown NY... Not sure if he is still in business or not, though...

I think he was one of the best sources for "Low grade" tops on the cheap.. I probably got 15 cheap tops from him - all have been usable. He also had normal/high grade stuff at decent prices as well... He did have some very nice bearclaw tops - but as with all high grade bearclaw - it was pricey...

I have no idea whether it's close to you or not.. but it might be source in NY state....

Otherwise - I wouldn't be shy about looking for dimensional lumber that would be well suited for brace wood in the local lumber yards and home improvement stores...

Thanks

Except for my Ted Davis' stock, I always bought my red spruce from:

Excellent wood and cuts it himself.
